Vasudhaiava Kutumbakam is a noble thought from the Maha Upanishad that views humanity as one entity. This principle was followed and practically applied by Mahatma Gandhi as taught by his guru, Shrimad Rajchandraji, a Jain follower.  Ahimsa principle of Jainism falls under the same bracket. It is an idea that aims to teach people to rise above their differences and learn to embrace them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Is Spirituality?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is that every being on this planet belongs to one community and therefore is one family. This is the spiritual purpose of the concept. However, we live as separate entities interested in our own welfare in practicality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we practice spirituality, we must acknowledge that every being that can reproduce (including plants) belongs to one family. Every family member is thought of as \u201cOne\u201d or \u201cAthman.\u201d By giving in to the concept of family, our prejudice and resentment go away, and we treat each other with a positive mindset. We are all temporary, after all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Does The Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam Philosophy Embody?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam philosophy encourages us to think of life like this \u2013 as a short time compared to the period of existence. Think of it as traveling together on a train \u2013 we might have previous connections or develop connections in the future. The journey is often short, and people don\u2019t often have time to develop biases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet, we thrive on being different from each other. Is this because we haven\u2019t accepted that our time on this planet is limited? Or is it because we have not accepted each other as family? Do we think we will live forever, and therefore our connections might not matter?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 100 years we get to live as humans on this planet is precious. We will have no choice but to love and accept each other if we know that our time is limited. When we think this way, we will fully experience life and not pay attention to things that don\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even if we don\u2019t treat each other like family, we should look out for each other and not cause disturbance in the peace. We are here to give and receive love and peace and should continue to promote the same values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We do things to make us happy. But how do we get happy and feel accomplished? It is known that not all actions lead to happiness. Therefore the secret to happiness has remained a mystery.
